Achievement is a great motivator and it adds interest when you appreciate the significance of topics we study. So, instead of just connecting work to what you have done in the past, I always try to give you an idea of how far these ideas can go.

Explain Everything!

Don’t just take my word for it, ask me why things are the way the are, even try and catch me out! It is also important to explain ideas from many different sides, especially when introducing new topics.

Solve Problems!

It is my belief that problem solving strategies are central to success in examinations and your subsequent life in the real world. I will teach you how to understand what the problem is asking for, how to translate this into the language of numbers, and to have the confidence to attack the problem!

If You Get Stuck!

1. Draw a diagram;
2. Look for different ways you can use the information in the problem to describe the same thing;
3. Don’t panic! – exams are written to be passed;
4. Enjoy mathematics, easily the most creative human activity.
